Break Distance-Spread

I was wondering is there a calculation to get a rough idea of break size? I have scripted a 3 position show, with 500g simultaneous firing and just trying to get an idea how far apart I should space them as to not over crowd the sky, but at the same time not create dead space?

Any idea on spread of standard consumer grade mortars?

I don’t know if it’s 100% accurate,, but I remember being told they go up about 100’ per inch of shell,, and break roughly half that number,, so a 1.75 consumer shell would go up 175’ and break a roughly 80’ spread

2” Mortars break around 90’ wide depending on the brand and product

What did you use to fire the show? I'm using Ignite and for this years show I was thinking of having 3-5 positions. I have 6 modules and trying to determine best distance between the positions. I have a mix of 1.4 and 1.4pro as well as a bunch of 62mm.

Rule of thumb is 100’ per 1” of diameter, that is also the formula that firework simulation software uses. This formula I know for a fact is true from previous shows that I’ve done when judging the size of the front in comparison to the shell breaking at its fullest. Since a consumer shell is by cpsc rule is a maximum of 2.25” the maximum break diameter is 225’
