Video is towards the bottom in a twitter type window.

“The firework was supposed to go up, but it did not."

This person they interview keeps saying we do it every year, we are all about safety. Mean while there's people sitting 10 feet from the cake and a child that cant even walk yet in a walker closer than everyone else.

And, it was a rocket that they stuck into the ground. Drunk, high, complacent, or stupid........take your pick.

Man that video at the top of that article covering the "dangers of fireworks" was unbearable to watch. It had it all: mass hysteria, fear-porn, news talking heads pretending like they're subject matter experts, and really BAD tips for safely handling fireworks.

They seemed to use fireworks and firecrackers interchangeably because they don't understand the difference between the two and no joke, one of the tips for "safely handling fireworks" was to "immediately pick up the firecracker after it has gone off and place it in a bucket of water to ensure it doesn't catch fire".

I'm sure someone who would follow that "safety tip" would count on two hands on why that's a bad idea...if they had two hands left after that tip!

Another one of those videos where I have so much to say but feel it's best I bite my lip and walk away.

Yea, and for some reason they used video of that bomb squad truck exploding itself for not properly handling the fireworks. Priceless!

Oh wow,, I’ve seen that video,, but never with such good audio,,, so many issues gone wrong here,, and it was not a faulty firework (which does happen) but not in this case,,, you can even hear a guy say,,,” I told you that was not gonna work,, you gotta put it in the tube” … and since no body was harmed it actually gave me a pretty good laugh !!.. LOL

It is just sickening that grown adults would put children in harms way like that. I am perfectly fine with adults blowing themselves up because they're drunk, high, both... But the kids don't know any better. They shouldn't be subjected to life altering (or ending) injuries because the "adults" are fools.

One of the videos out there, you can hear right afterwards one of the "dad's" say something like "you can't stick it in the ground it won't work". From what I saw on some of the news posts, they ended the video before that is heard.

yup and the comment that fireworks accidents have "gone up 25% since 2006" of course not looking at the data, who knows if they are comparing apples to apples but I do know this they are overlooking the fact that the US citizen population has gone up 10% in that time period

Online TikTok, YouTube, Social media, etc viewership has increased exponentially as well.

An interesting graphic :

EDIT: You may even be able to correlate certain accident type increases to this graph as well

Here is the data.

They took the CSPC estimated injuries. 9,200 x 1.25 = 11,500.

However, per 100,000 (I think they have a typo in their header), it looks like it has increased about 10% since 2006. Or, we could point out injuries have reduced since last year from 4.7 to 3.5 per 100,000.

Again the majority of recorded devices causing injuries are firecrackers and sparklers.

Quite frankly, you just can't fix stupid.
Personally I take pride in my shows and am constantly preaching safety.
I thought I knew a lot about fireworks safety until I took the display operator course.
Probably one of the best thing I've done in many years.

I came across the full version of the video and you can clearly hear one of the men yelling at the boy for sticking the rocket in the ground instead of the "trough" as soon as he lights it. It's convenient that is edited out of almost every version as they try to pass it off as fireworks malfunction.

This is why I absolutely hate being around anyone shooting fireworks. I know that most of us take safety very seriously and usually go far and beyond what can be expected of the consumer. I don't want to come off as the "Safety Police" or a "Karen" but it's either that or sit back and keep quiet, hoping for the best. The last such party I attended, each guest was actually asked to bring a cake. Most guests brought nothing or the cheapest thing they could find. I showed up with a pair of 500G cakes which the host decided to place about 10 feet from his house on the side of a hill. I told him I'd handle those two and he insisted that he would light all the fireworks because he'd feel safer that way. This even though he knew full well that I'm licensed and shoot professional shows. When he wasn't looking I collected my cakes and locked them back in my truck for another day and I'm sure he had some not so kind words for me behind his back.
