Whats the differnce between an 18" tube and a 24" tube besides the 6 inches. Whats more prefered and why? Thank you

The smallest a 3" tube can be per the guidlines is 6 times the diameter.....so your 3" mortars at MINIMUM must be 18" long.....any longer than that probably falls under the same speculation as 12" and 15" Dr11

So a 4" is 24" min. But what is the difference between 18" long 3" and a 24" long 3"?

Its like Indiana Said... The whole debate between a 12" and 15" DR11 applies here as well. The longer the tube it in theory will produce a bit more height.

The best part and not thought about is you don't have to bend over as far to light the taller mortars. Now for you young bucks this might not matter but as you age this becomes more of a plus. Big shoots can beat the hell out of you.

That is very true--taller guns=less bending over--ergo--less back pain. Muscle relaxers don't mix well with prozac I hear!! FYI Jay can run faster than me & Pyrolyffic!

Pipe size has more to do with shell size. 18" tube is good for single break shell. Double break shell I think requires a 22" minimum. A 24 will cover you for both. Don't forget that's the inside measurement. The plug needs to be as thick as the width of the pipe.

Don't know how i missed this...
Also depending on your shell leaders attached - some are short - so the 18" works better - others are longer - so 24" is more suitable.
We had always used the 24" size for the most part - had some 18" racks built one time as we had a lot of short leaders on shells at one time - what a pain in the A$$!
I had one rack maker tell me as far as height goes - it does not make a difference. or that is what he said...
