Drunken Fireworks accident in Nevada last weekend

It appears that the following happened:

1. Someone loaded a consumer mortar shell upside down, lit it with a propane torch and handed it to a random person who was extremely drunk/high.
2. He proceeded to hold the lit mortar in is hand. You can see the lift charge pop and shoot flame out the top of the tube, then explode about 3 seconds later. They had to go back and look for his fingers at daybreak.
3. The man next to him got hit in the heart/lung area with high-speed material and ended up critical condition.

This is what I have been saying for years, when things go wrong with these re-loadable shells, it is a combination of two wrong sequences. We will have to follow this story.

To be honest I have no sympathy for these drunkin morons. It's these stupid drunk individuals that cause most of the fireworks accidents that make hard for the safe and sane users.. Lost a friend here 4-5 years back when he decided to hold a lit "illegal firework" ( an M-80 the size of a toilet paper roll) in his mouth for a second. It fast fused and blew his jaw off. Sad..

This is the result when you lose all respect for fireworks. It is so frustrating because the majority of fireworks enthusiats that always follow safety will eventually now suffer from this stupity if it gets the attention of law makers. Seems like there are more idots out there in the world these days that dont use there heads. By the way what the hell kind of an event was that?

I have a friend at the local BLM office. They told me this isn't an organized event like an offorad race or a concert. It's literally a bunch of morons from Sacramento and other locations showing up on a holiday weekend. There seems to be a belief that Nevada is totall lawless.

maybe we should make it so before you buy fireworks, you need to pass a common sense test? (friend of mine came up with that about some people having kids) while the baby is in the womb, they take the test, pass and keep the baby, if not they have to give it up for adoption.

In all seriousness I wouldn't be opposed to having someone take a required safety course before being allowed to purchase fireworks. But you can't stop stupid.

I would really like to see more of the events that happened leading up to where this video started. So much to say but my mother always taught me that if I have nothing nice to say it's best not to say anything.

It seems to me idiots that can get there hands on firearms do more damage to others than some idiot using fireworks and blowing his own hand off.

In 2020 there were over 45,000 gun related deaths in the USA. Around 20k were murders.
In 2020 there were 18 firework related deaths and 15,600 injuries in the USA.

I don't think people should have to go through safety classes to buy fireworks when they don't to buy weapons' that are made to kill people.

Getting back to the topic, I saw my neighbor kid who's around 20 standing on his second floor deck holding a 200g cake in his hand while it was going off. I yelled to him to put it down you can blow your hand off if it misfires. He ignored me but nothing happened to him. I then explained to him what could go wrong and that you need to respect the power fireworks have to avoid injuries no matter the size of them.

I think the most notorious firework that people don't even realize they shouldn't hold are roman candles. They do say right on them DO NOT HOLD IN HAND.
