This is a step up from the firefly, but I'm still not sure about using a phone as a remote. I'd rather have even a simple remote with physical buttons. The fact you get an easily replaceable li-po and a charger for it vs using 8 D cells is great. I'd probably replace it with one of Enegizer's 9v lithium batteries though. I wish they had put indicators near the quickplugs to show continuity too. Thinking about it, making the cue numbers a different color than the shell might be a good idea. That's an easy fix with a paint market.

It looks like this App can be used for show creation , scan products and a few other things. You can also add multiple modules all at 18 shots each. I went out in my yard tonight with it and had one MJG Initiator connected. I stood where I did for my backyard New Years Eve display and had full signal strength. With the module flat on the ground. I then walked along the side of my house towards the street further away. You can see the signal bars on the software, it was at at least 50 % . When I was at the further distance towards the street, I turned my back to the module holding my phone in front of me and it lost signal. Apparently Bluetooth does not penetrate a human body well. LOL When I turned back to face the module , it grabbed the signal. There appear to be adjustment in the setting to tell the module what time frame it should either shut down and/or keep running the show if signal is lost. I'm still experimenting with it. Also there is something about going to a website and creating a show and apparently bringing it to your phone for use.

Looks interesting. Seeing as though its bluetooth, I wonder if you could use it with a tablet giving yourself a much larger screen to work on.

As long as it's android based and has the google play store installed, I see no reason you wouldn't be able to. One thing I would worry about is what is the minimum version of android you need in order to run their app.

Yea, I had purchased the firefly 2 years ago when it would only run on Iphone or Ipad. I borrowed an Ipad and setup the show in it. Ran a test and the firefly failed. Tried a few other tests to see if it was something I did but in all the tests, I didn't have one successful one. I thought the app on the phone would be great but it wasn't for me. The guys at Firefly were very understanding when I explained that the product just didn't stand up to what I was hoping for and they refunded me quickly with no issues. They had reusable heat coils to ignite the visco but 2 of them where complete toasted and not working after the second test. (they did offer to replace them)

I'm not sure this device is going to be any different. Guess we'll have to wait and see. Bluetooth is only good for a max distance of 30 feet (10 meters) which is guess is fine for shooters but just seems a little short distance.

Does anyone know the price point on this? I guess you'll have to buy the talons from Scott with the special connector on the ends?

Engineer Cat, you can buy them right now. Here's (https://www.ignitefiringsystems.com/buyonline) the link. They're a little over $200 with shipping.

Wow that's pretty reasonable. Clips are are a fair price too.

I just ordered the Firelinx. Should be delivered tomorrow. Can't wait. :)

Not to bad at all for the price point.

How far are you from the module? It looks like you are past the 30 foot range that bluetooth reaches and still had plenty of signal left to move even further away.

Those of you who are Androids users they do have the Ignite app in the play store.

This does not use Bluetooth and has a range far in excess of 30 feet. Check the website. 100 to 300 feet or more.

According to them (https://www.ignitefiringsystems.com/i18), It does use bluetooth. This (https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/fanstel-corp/BT832XE/8323669) is the module they're using in them.

Yes BLE (bluetooth low energy) is also referred to bluetooth 5. It’s predecessor is bluetooth 4 which is used yet today in most bluetooth devices. BLE bluetooth 5 is what is in most if not all modern current phones and tablets.

How did I miss this? Seems like a decent intermediate firing system. At first glance, my only criticism is that it uses colors to identify the modules instead of just using easily identifiable numbers. Probably not an issue with the 6 mod limit but if they scale beyond that, colors could start looking similar. The current 108 cue limit (quick plug only) is also something to consider unless you are certain you will never need more cues (it does support parallel and series wiring so you can go well beyond 108). I'm fine using a phone/tablet and Bluetooth for the remote. I would want to hear more about user experiences with this system but probably would have seriously considered this system before upgrading to the Cobra.

If they made it too good, it'd be nipping at the heels of the cobra.

I should have said it does not use the original Bluetooth that we are used to, with the 30 foot range. As a shooter, I usually shoot from about 150 feet away for a 1.3G show.

Just to add a bit of clarity, there is a difference between "Classic Bluetooth" and "BLE". Here is a nice explanation here: https://www.ignitefiringsystems.com/faq#faq5

While the system is technically Bluetooth, there is a difference between a Bluetooth speaker or headset using a small radio with an internal antenna and what IGNITE uses. We use a high-end, power amplified BLE 5.0 transceiver with an external antenna. We employ the lowest data rates to extend the range and can show off some impressive results. Bluetooth if implemented poorly (for the purposes of range), will generate poor range. If implemented properly using specially designed RF modules, antennas, and the correct data rates, generate pretty impressive range and reliability. In the below video, Joel achieves about 1,300 ft. of range. IGNITE advertises our range at a minimum "max" range of 150-300.+ feet. This is true for both BLE4 and BLE5 devices. BLE5 was introduced into the mass smartphone market in around 2017.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=2&v=LjagKRbEpZk&feature=emb_title

In short, Bluetooth is not the same depending on what technology you choose in both hardware and software. It is all about how it's implemented. We use BLE with high end hardware to achieve range you would not expect from tradition off the shelf Bluetooth systems.

Hope this helps!
