I've been meaning to post here for a while so heres a quick summary of fireworks in Ireland.

The first thing is Garden or Backyard fireworks/Consumer Fireworks are Illegal in Ireland
but people do tend to bring them in illegally from across the border with Northern Ireland (UK) but theres up to 10,000 Euros fine if caught with them.

There's no training programs or any licence needed to be a pyrotechnician or to Fire a Professional display here, but you do need an import licence to get the fireworks and has to applied for at least 6 weeks before the display. http://www.justice.ie/en/JELR/Guidance%20Doc%20on%20Organised%20Pyro%20Displays. pdf/Files/Guidance%20Doc%20on%20Organised%20Pyro%20Displays. pdf

Most Fireworks for professional displays are Imported from the UK on the day of the display as most pyrotechnicians dont have the facility to store fireworks overnight http://www.justice.ie/en/JELR/Pages/Fireworks

Thats all there is really, theres only about 6 or 7 fireworks companies here and most aren't very busy and usually only do displays as a side job or hobbie :)

Thank you for clarifying how Ireland is separated into The United Kingdom area and Ireland proper. Can you please try to post those links again because they are not working for me? I also have a question, are you saying if someone in the southern part of Ireland wants a fireworks display they have to order it from the UK section of Ireland (northern Ireland). What are some of the major fireworks holidays in the southern part of Ireland?
How closely are the border between Northern and southern Ireland watched? Do packages and mail cross over without customs inspection

Yeah we have to get an import licence to bring fireworks into Ireland for displays, and they're usually sourced from the UK.
The major fireworks displays would be around St. Patricks day and Halloween, Halloween being the one where must illegal fireworks are brought from across the border.
Packages and mail are still screened my customs but there are no checkpoints on the border anymore so its easy for people to go across and fill vans and trucks with fireworks and bring them back :)
