What is the type of plug I need and where do I buy them?
And the crimping/insertion tool as well...

I found this looking into the very same thing:
https://www.cobrafiringsystems.com/quickplugs
Scroll down to the FAQ section and you will find this:
Can I install quickplugs on my own igniters?
Absolutely! Both the tooling used to install these and the connectors themselves are off the shelf parts that can be purchased.
The hand crimping tool consists of two parts, the handle (https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/te-connectivity-amp-connectors/58074-1/30197) and the specific crimping head (https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/te-connectivity-amp-connectors/58246-1/117948) for the connectors.
The quickplug connectors can be purchased in two different gauges, 28 AWG (https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/te-connectivity-amp-connectors/3-640443-2/698123?s=N4IgTCBcDaIIIGYAMBOFAWAtAOQCIgF0BfIA) & 24 AWG (https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/te-connectivity-amp-connectors/3-640441-2/698221?s=N4IgTCBcDaIIIGYAMBOA7ADgLQDkAiIAugL5A). Be sure to purchase the correct gauge connector for the igniters you plan to use.
If I'm looking at that correctly your looking at almost $500 for the handle and head. That was enough to make me pass on the idea.

Yeah I found that too. I thought I had seen a post or comment somewhere that there was a much less expensive tool but I was unable to find anything in the Forum search. As an alternative I thought about cutting the ends off of used initiators and twisting them onto the bare wire, but I?d rather not if I can avoid it.
I also can?t imagine Digikey is the only supplier of this type of connector.

Perfect. Thank you. $40 still seems steep for such a simple tool but it sure beats $500. I’ll take it.
