Ok, complete Noob question here. If Cobra says you can cut MJG Initiators to wire in series or parallel, would it be possible to cut the quickplug end off of a used initiator and twist it on a standard initiator to create a new quickplug in initiator? I?ve got two extra boxes of standard and am just trying to figure out how to use them.

Sure you could splice them to a new initiator but that point is really independent of parallel or series.

Thanks for the reply esgrillo. Yes The plan was to run them independent, just with a previously used quickplug connector. I'm just trying to figure out a way to use up two boxes of standard connectors when all I have are quickplug 18M's

Stay tuned... a guy I know will be coming out with a device soon that’ll allow series quick plug wiring on a PCB board.

grillo meant that your question has nothing to do with it being series or parallel.... you can reuse a quickplug and wire it either way you need to

Closer look at the MJG Quick and Regular connect.

aka MTA100 connectors both the cobra quick plugs or the MJG are the same. I'm a fan...

I converted 6 of my mods to quick-plug in order to make my life easier. Then I went and scripted multiple items to be shot off the same cue like I always do. So now I have to cut and splice wires anyway.... :( Then test ran my script today and as soon as I turned on mod 4, I got an error message. Grrrrr... I was just about to tear it apart to see how I jacked up the conversion, then I noticed I had a stuck key. Un-stuck the key, mod works like a champ. Pure craziness. Did I mention that I tore my entire garage apart looking for my quick-fuse? Then I found it in the box sitting right next to me. The pyro gods are really making me work for it this year....

That's one of the reasons I have held off on quick-plugs. As far as I can tell, if you want to just run a couple wires in parallel out of the same cue on the mod you're actually creating more work. The only way I can see around it is if you used quick-plug slats which may be better in the long run because you can use shorter MJG's or you can just use short runs of cable to the slats and run longer wires. I assume Cobra thought people would prefer to use slats. I also recall reading on here at some point that someone is working on something that will eliminate the need to splice. I assume it will be some sort of adapter that you put in your cue that has several quick-plug ports on it.

Hope I'm not misunderstanding your need to splice because I thought you went with quick-plugs so you could take advantage of slats.

Yeah, I'm using slats this year for the first time too. I bought the 3' quick-clip initiators for the cakes on the boards with slats. I'm hoping I can put the slats in the center of the board and reach out to each cake. We're building the boards tomorrow morning so I'll find out shortly. But yes... I have multiple items on each cue. So it's going to be lots of cutting and splicing tomorrow. I hope Cobra comes out with a solution quick.

Think of it this way. As easy as it seems, speaker terminals suck time. So before you wasted time on terminals and splicing. Now it's just splicing.

Forget splicing! Get these muuxbrd.com/quicksplit allows up to 12 (wired series) quickplugs you just plug this board into whatever que your using, plug in your quickplugs, and BAM done.

Not affiliated in anyway but I do happily use some of his products.

I have a ton of these myself. This is the answer to quick series wiring with quick plugs aka MTA100

WTH is that?! More importantly, where do I get some?!

muuxbrd.com guys name is C.J. Jurczak on facebook groups. great guy and very high quality products. I shoot fireTEK and have both those series boards and well as some of his custom quickplug rails that are fireTEK specfic. Great stuff

Thanks for hooking me up, just bought a half dozen of these boards!

I bought several its pretty neat to use quick plugs for the series wiring even though i'm still using regular wires for most of my rails.

Definitely thanks for the info!! I'll be picking some of these up for sure. I spent 4 hours last weekend cutting and splicing quickplug initiators to series wire some flame effects. smh...

Yea, those boards will hold up to 12 in series per que. I've got 19 of them but I now wish I had more so I could use one for every series connection. Next year, making a list of equipment I need (want lol). Glad I dont have a wife.......

I've been using separate module cues for each product/device except for when I have more than 2 simultaneous devices on a cue, to save on setup time (series wiring is time consuming), but now with this little board you've got me thinking that I could build shows a lot bigger with the number of Cobra mods I currently have now, simply by using one of these little boards anytime I have 2 or more devices that need to fire simultaneously. For me this happens a lot as I am almost always firing 2 at a time. My point is that I bet I could reduce the number of cues I actually have to use on my Cobra mods by about 1/2 just by using these boards. The only downside to this is it makes setup a little more difficult in the field. You have to come up with a system and your help needs to understand what to do with these boards (jumper wise) when setting up multiple devices. Basically I've now figured out that I don't need a 1/2 dozen of these boards, but instead more like 20. :D
