Guinness Book of World Records shell

This Saturday (Feb. 8), the attempt to fire the world's largest shell takes place in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
The shell weighs more than 2,700 pounds and is 62 inches in diameter.

The current world record for the largest aerial fireworks shell belongs to U.S.-based "Fireworks by Grucci"and "Al Marjan Island" of the United Arab Emirates. I know you said that as a joke, but they mentioned in one of their tech articles that they DID have to notify the FAA and get clearance for the shell since it will be going up so high--and spreading out almost a mile.
Hoping for a perfect launch and break this time!!!!!!

Tonight is the night. Is it 8pm Mountain Time ? and 10 pm EST? Wonder if Grucci is worried they may take the record. LOL I believe they will go live 30 minutes prior to the time.

I wonder how they stored that thing, as shells over 8" diameter have to be kept in a Type I or Type II magazine. Maybe he got a variance to keep it in his shop during the build?

I had the honor to be on site for the transport of the shell, the loading of the shell into the mortar, and the launch. Well, 1 mile away from the launch haha!
