I recently aquired some HDPE tubes ranging 3" to 6". While I was cleaning them up, I notice the "plug" was metal on the 3" tubes. What are you ideas and opinions on this? http://www.pyrotalk.com/bulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=3760&stc=1http://www.pyrotalk.com/bulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=3761&stc=1http://www.pyrotalk.com/bulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=3762&stc=1

Nice. I've seen wood plugs crack.

New one to me.. Looks to be about 1.5" thick, could be fine as long as they are properly secured to the tube. If you're concerned, Midwest wood products sells wood plugs pretty cheap. Next time I need to replace plugs I'm going to buy hdpe rod stock and cut it into plugs.

That is a new one for me. Haven's seen a metal plug on a HDPE gun before. Is it aluminum--or steel?
Like Kenny said above, Midwest is an excellent source for bungs [plugs]. I have used hundreds of them and they are excellent quality.

I like the looks of those plugs. Are you from Arkansas ? My guess is a display company in your area may have had those specially made. They look well made with ribbing and all. I take it those side post screw in and out? Also see if a magnet sticks to it.

Going strictly on coloration, looks like aluminum (no rust). Also looks like roll pins on the sides.

I like them as well, Yes sir I am from Arkansas. The story is that they were from a company in Oklahoma that sold out. The post are actually roll pins that are set in there. Also a magnet does not stick.

Kenny, when you go to HDPE rods are you going to go with the same thickness as if you were using wood plugs? I would think that HDPE plugs would allow you to reduce the thickness giving your more tube for launch.

I will probably use the standard thickness... Most of my racks are made to accept a blow out above the top of the plugs. So if I take the plug length down and have a Cato... It could do more damage to the rack since the top of the plug will be below the bottom rail.

I don't know who made them but I used to have a bunch of dr11 tubes that had a hollow hdpe plug. The plug had a cross support in the middle, and was injection molded. Screwed in with nice stainless steel screws. Have them to a friend, came in a tube lot I bought.
