Not that it gets to cold down here but i'm going to spend alot of time in the garage building this winter. I have some really nice rack designs to make.

My only concern for the candle rack is if ya get one that is rogue so to speak... how easy does the staple pull out?? Did you "stress test" it
Minishow
09-20-2011, 12:21 PM
I pulled on each one and they will each support the weight of the rack, I used the longer staples meant for holding household wiring down. The next one I build will be a replica of one that Albone posted in the "painting racks" thread, that is an awsome setup and I feel dumb for not thinking of it myself lol. Its just like a box with 2 layers of garden fence wire so you could fan them sevral rows deep instead of just one row like mine.

I can't get the picture uploader thing to work for some reason but I have a 30 shot, 20 shot, 14 shot, and 6 shot rack. All are straight racks. The 14 shot is a rack made from cardboard tubes from a case of shells, the other racks all have HDPE. I have yet to make another rack for my 14 fiber glass tubes from another case of shells. I also have a home made(not by me) 36 que firing system.

I will be starting to build my racks soon,my idea is to make all 10 shot racks with a locking system to hook them all together. I'm thinking if I do that I can place the racks any way I want all in line, side by side,w whatever. Going to make a bunch about 50 10 shot racks. I have a need to see 500 shells go up at once GO BIG OR STAY HOME lol.

Make 20 Shot Racks they are the best so easy to carry . I cannot figure out how to upload a pic from my library I have some nice Racks ...at least I think so.....

would love to see any and all racks and designs, this will be my first go at it but it doesn't look that hard. does the forum have a sponsor that sells the tubes? if so who is it I would rather buy them with plugs and not have to do that part if I can help it.

Yea http://www.skylighter.com/ sells tubes with plugs, wish I could help with the uploading photos problem but I tryed myself and also got confused.

These were my first racks. I had them sitting like that to simulate the barrage I wanted at the time. they are NOT put together in this fashion/size....it would be way too heavy. built these with only 2x3 wood for the sides, bottom, and rails. really not as heavy individually as you might think, just bulky.

These are the newer design I'm going with. seems to be a lot cleaner of a build. Plywood on top, OBX on bottom, bottom spacers leave half of the wood plug uncovered, mortars are not screwed in but are pretty snugged into it.

That^ is how I plan on making my racks for next year. 10 shots each and then put them together on site. I'm not sure how I'm going to attach them though, I'm trying to find something other than a board to avoid putting nails in all the time. Nice racks btw

Nice stuff indianahx. I've noticed eveyone puts OSB/OBX at the bottom, whats the reason for that ?
indianahx
09-24-2011, 11:06 PM
from all the reading up on it i've done, if there happens to be a blow-out at the base of your tubes, the OSB will take the majority of the force and splinter easier (so they say.....). Anyway, I thought what the hell and I'll give it a whirl
thanks for all the responses. btw, the first picture is just one picture I took. i actually have twice as many as that (others were just in the attic). once I got them to the site, all I did was screw another 2x3 across all of them on botch sides to stabilize them. after I did that, I have since made end boards for 3 racks at a time so you can modular-ize them on site. they eye hooks just arent in the picture.

meant to add this pic:
http://i1187.photobucket.com/albums/z381/indianahx/utf-8BSU1BRzAyNzYuanBn.jpg
just a basic little firing system. it was the first one I've bought since I actually just started e-firing since I got my type 54 and e-match. I bought the "control" desk because I had anticipated actually using quite a few receivers. it's not bad. i'd like to get maybe a few other systems as well.
edit: sorry for the blurryness of the picture. just snapped the photos with the "smart" phone. you get the idea anyway i'm sure.

I drove by a factory last saturday & hit the brakes--there was a dumpster full of cardboard tubes with thread on them. The place was closed so I went back monday morning & asked them if I could have some of the tubes--"Take all you want" they told me. I filled up my Blazer! These are bigger than 1.75" 1.4 tubes-- I got 95 tubes for 2.5" shells, 45 for 2" shells & 30 for 1.75" shells. I was going to go back again for another load but it rained & they all got wet.
Also got a truck load of wood from a monument company[cemetery headstones] for racks--Thanks to Dave for mentioning that in one of his videos--I kept an eye on the place & hit them up when I saw they got a shipment in. They were glad to get rid of the wood!
Looks like I will be in construction mode this winter.
The third pic is some various racks I put together this last year--the one with the yellow fiberglass tubes is a 50 shot angled "sky puke" with 1.5" tubes for the small festival balls and mines--nice filler rack for low level stuff. The orange racks are 5 10 shot 1.75"HDPE that weren't painted yet, a double HDPE & single fiberglass 10 shot, and a 10 shot 3" with one tube out--was using it to test some shells. Also some 4" tubes not loaded into racks yet.
The 4 brown tubes in the front are loaded with 25 10 shot roman candles each--a "V" & 2 "straight ups".

Just checked the larger tubes I got--a 3" shell fits in them perfectly!! :) Did I luck out on that one--I thought I was going to have to buy 2 1/2" shells for next year! Now I am going to have to buy a drill press at Harbor Freight to cut all the plugs I will need for them!

I've had the tubes for 2 months now, and have been hiding them at the office from my boyfriend. (He doesn't know how bad I've gotten) I've been researching the design, and decided to start the build last Friday afternoon. He came home from work and found me in the garage with the skill saw. He laughed hysterically! I was about halfway through with the cuts. Long story short, he helped me finish, and while he won't take credit for it, (cause it looks like crap) he is telling everyone we know the story! His exclamation is that he has never seen anyone make a curved "s" cut in a 2x4 with a skill saw. (Apparently I'm just that damn good!) lol! HA! Yep, that's how bad it was! And thanks to my awesome carpentry skills, my planned 30 shot rack got trimmed down to a 27 shot rack! But hey, at least I have a rack now!
On a sad note, I think this weekend he is off to the store to buy pad locks to "secure" the power tools out of me reach from me from now on. :)
Oh and here is the smaller roman candle rack I made when I was left unattended for the evening...hehehe... It too looks like crap, but it'll be safe once I add the clips to hold it in place. I've never had then before, but based on the ones I've seen in videos from years past, I do agrees with others that the pyro paintballs might be shrinking.

GApyro... on the roman candle rack... do you have so board screws on off for the candles to be inserted or are there spacers in between we can not see?
GApyroCHICK
10-10-2011, 11:48 AM
No, the boards do not screw OFF, but one side can be extended. The roman candles load from the top. I have used long enough screws so that I can back them out to put two roman candles in together. (Have I confused you enitrely now?)
It's almost identical to the design of the rack in Dave's video under "projects"- "Roman Candle-Quick Fuse". If you haven't seen those vids for Roman Candle rack designs, I would suggest checking those out too.
Sorry, you do not get to see pics from the other side of the Roman Candle rack. It's ugly. The saw and I had a fight, and the saw won. I had to rip the top boards. That's where all the duct tape went Indiana, to fix the saw! LOL ;)

For an example of the racks that I build using consumer tubes check out dave's 366 salute video from the Kellners demo. The same basic design can be used for HDPE tubes as well.
