Canister Shell Composition Weights

Ok, with all the talk about 5" canister shells and what's better, I thought I'd go through all the videos I've seen of shells being cut open to weigh and compile them together to get a rough average. Many of you probably already know this, but I thought it might be interesting for those who don't. Turns out there's not a huge difference in shells. Many come close to the 60g limit, some right on it, but the vast majority are easily below it. I think if you buy the shells you like you'll be okay.

From the chart looks like bigs pro and brothers quest shells are worth the price!

I first want to thank you for putting this together.

Im sure there is quite a bit of variance of composition limit per shell per case I would assume? Highly doubt these shells are being made with precision(your chart shows that)

With that being said this chart, is this basically one shell per brand that was dissected and weighted?
If so then this is pretty much hog wash.

Buy what shells you can get cheapest. I highly doubt from the naked eye a person could tell that much of a difference with 5-10 gram difference between shells

I’ve watched that old video where crazies weighed a Pro shell at 68g, and I’m pretty sure he was including the weight of the clay or whatever it was that was plugging one end of the shell. That guy cracks me up though.
I’ve watched plenty of these videos, and while I’d agree that the sample sizes are far from scientifically accurate, I wouldn’t call them hogwash either. They're data points. And I like seeing how these things are put together. Even though a lot of them are similar, they’re definitely not all the same.

This guy could work as a chemist for the CPSC weighing all those shells. I agree with nayslayer comment in post #3. I must say I really do like canister artillery shells. I keep wanting to electric match about 18 of them directly into the lift and then electrically fire all 18 at once. But I usually fire two or three at the same time with electric match. It feels like I doing a mini professional pin board display. Now we have the Firewire Initiators (don't say igniter) and wireless modules, the average advanced user of fireworks can do the same.
