my granulures are real brittle, i added 5grams dextrin to a 100gram batch of bp. i then sun dried them for two days. does the sun have some kind of affect on this? or should i maybe find a way to compress the bp tighter. this was my first batch, any imput would be a great help.

Did you use straight water or water/alcohol mixture to moisten it?

needs to be around 30 or 15% of alcohol otherwise the dextrin will not perform

What exactly do you mean by brittle? They're supposed to be hard grains. Do you mean that the granules are not strong enough?

Well, if what you mean is that they crumble at the mere touching, then they are wet, so wait for them to dry a little more; however, if they crumble when you are pressing them between your fingers, they might need more dextrin. I use a 100:5 ratio of BP/Dextrin, wet the mix with a 30:70 by volume solution of Isopropyl alcohol in water (some say that a more concentrated solution can have a detrimental effect on bp) to a point at which the mixture stays together in a ball and granulate it through a coarse sieve; I catch the granules on a plastic tray (not on newspaper because the kno3 might leech from the bp) and then I dry them in the shade for about 2-3 days, and they are very hard.
