May be a stupid question, but What and how does Whistle mix, whistle?

Not a stupid question at all. The whistle compound is pressed into a tube leaving at least 1/3 of the length of the tube empty. When the compound burns the gases produced exit the tube creating the whistle. The diameter of the tube & length of the opening determine the "tone" of the whistle. Picture a steam whistle or a clarinet--air going thru a tube & coming out an opening creating a noise. That is the "simple" explanation.
Whistle mix is very dangerous to work with--like flash powder. It is shock and static sensitive.
