i don't need anything fancy. if i get to buy fireworks this year, it'll be my first time filming them.
so, here it is: https://www.amazon.com/Camcorder-Besteker-Camcorders-Portable-Microphone/dp/B073PX1455/ref=sr_1_7?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1508835598&sr=1-7&keywords=video+camera

You will find going to something with 60FPS will give you a much better video.

In the same price range, check out the Canon VIXIA HF R800. You can purchase wide angle lens & external mic for $50 so total $225-250.
A lot of experience on here so hopefully some additional input, but currently researching same topic & this is where I'm leaning currently.

I do not, still looking myself, the 60fps was just something I had found along the way.

i'm surprised i didn't get more suggestions. i would need a video camera that has a usb port that hooks up to my computer, so i can take everything straight from my camera to my computer, plus be able to take pictures and film the fireworks going off.

I believe the Canon can do that, it also has a port for a better microphone.

Just make sure that whatever you buy has a "fireworks" mode on it. SONY has some cheap camcorders that have that feature, and it works well.

would this be the right wide angle lens to get? https://www.amazon.com/Camcorder-Definition-LensPen-Cleaning-Keeper/dp/B007OX85V2/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1513671925&sr=1-1&keywords=canon+vixia+hf+r800+wide+angle+lens
