It is that time of year again for the annual fireworks display at the Collier Sportsman Club picnic. I need help to pull this off every year. This is a non-profit display. It is a little bit of work and a lot of fun. If you are looking to learn about advanced pyrotechnic techniques, it is a great learning opportunity. You do not need to bring any fireworks product, the club will provide free food and drink all day. Please bring the usual fireworks tools like work gloves, hammer etc.
We will be using fireworks product from XFX Pyrotechnics and the FireTEK Fireworks Firing System. I am hoping to video some of the advanced features and latest FireTEK equipment.
We meet at the property around 12 noon on August 26, 2017. Please let me know if you are coming on the forums or email me. If you can make that would be great.

The sportsman club address is

The Collier Club has had this cannon for some time and never used it. There some long winded story that goes with it. I put in a request to fire it at the upcoming picnic. Not sure what the answer will be.

I went to a graduation party where a guy had one like that. Don't remember the details but remember that thing was LOUD. He didn't shoot anything out of it. Something in my brain is keeps saying soup can or something was sot out of it. If I see the kid I'll ask him what they did.

With rifled liners, cast zinc projectiles (like a huge miniball) are preferred during competition. They are dug out of the ground and melted down and recast because of the expense. Zinc can get expensive, so a lot of guys use cans partially filled with concrete and topped off with lead. A neighbor of mine at the time of his passing was one of only two machinists in the US that could rifle bore a liner and replace it. Needless to say I saw a lot of cannons go past our house.

That's a mortar that Dave has there. Not very accurate, especially when compared to a cannon with a rifled barrel insert.

Dave, be careful. A brass cannon or mortar without a liner can frag. I wouldn't get anywhere near that thing when it goes off.

Talked to my friend who knows the kid. His grandfather used to make them on a lathe when he worked at West Penn power. Last I knew he lived off of camp Horne Rd by the vet. If you want I can see if he has any words of wisdom.

Last I heard the club is not going to let me shoot their cannon. One officer said it has sentimental meaning. There not sure what it sentimental about because they can't even remember how they obtained it. So it will continue to gather dust in the main meeting room.

Sounds like you need to Rodney Dangerfield that club up and let them know you're not going to stand for the old guard Bushwood mentality.

I will find some time to post some video soon. We are planning to meet up later this week with XFX to go over some of the more advanced FireTEK functions. I will also have video of that. Thanks again to all of those that showed up to help with this display.
.
Here is short shot of the FireTEK, I like how the fireworks reflected off of the remote.

Look forward to the videos of the shoot and also of the advanced FireTEK functions. I used one FireTEK module for my "backyard display" on the 4th and I was impressed with all the capability. It is quite exciting now with both FireTEK and Cobra coming out with new hardware. I just received two more FireTEK modules from XFX on Saturday and did some test scripts with them just this morning. Look forward to what you might find coming out in the near future.
