I use the same thing but map gas. Just burns hotter and is what I use on rusty nuts/bolts

I picked up a Bernzomatic TS4000T and I love it! the fact that the trigger starts both the gas flow and ignited the flame is really convenient that you don't have to mess around with a knob or anything. I'm not sure if the TS3000KC has the same features but it is cheaper.

If I am going to be at it a while I'll use road flares. If its just a few things then yea I'll use a torch.

As someone said above, MAPP Gas is a definite upgrade also, hotter and less likely to blow out.

How hot do you need your torch to be, to light a fuse?
Actually, I meant that sarcastically, but now I'll ask seriously. I ordered a used TS4000 on ebay, but was shipped a TS8000, which is compatible with mapp gas. Is there any reason I'd want the mapp gas instead of propane, just for lighting fireworks?

Visco seems to light a little quicker with MAPP and sometimes using propane the visco will blow out the propane torch when it lights causing a slight delay to relight your torch and the MAPP just plain burns better.

We tried lighting several visco fused shells in a row one night with propane and when visco would ignite, it would blow out the torch sometimes. When lighting anymore than a few now we just light a 15 or 30 minute flare now. If using the the TS8000 you can relight quickly anyway and I think that torch has a better quality flame which probably hotter than the standard cheaper torch heads.

Just passing this on because when we started we made a LOT of mistakes and the torches were one of them.

Anything the is self lighting... I do know about your preferences, but I don't want to fool around with igniting a torch in the dark. I also have to agree with everyone suggesting a Bernzomatic or an extra long road flare.

Yes the propane tank will start to ice up if you are shooting in cooler temps. The map gas wont.

Used the Bernzomatic with the knob and push button this year and it was a complete and total failure. I'm sure part of that was user error on my part but having it fail on me multiple times while I was hand lighting my backyard show, I think I'll stick to a road flare for next time.

If you want something smaller, check out one of the many creme brulee torches on amazon. They run around $20 and are refillable
