The current bill is sponsored by Nicholas P. Scutari District 22 [Middlesex, Somerset and Union Counties]. It was just revised on May 8. The revisions were just grammatical errors. The bill seems to be similar to New York's current regulations. It allows Novelties, sparklers and ground sparkling cakes up to 500 grams. It is Senate Bill No. 3034.

The only thing I would say to try and get changed wouldbe to separate county territories. Like urban, suburban and rural areas. Look what just happened here in Schenectady county. The whole county now is banned from fireworks because of the inner city issues. Otherwise good for you NJ hope it works out for you.

The bill passed the State Senate 35-1. It now goes to the Assembly and then to the governor. The fact it passed with an almost unanimous vote shows a lot of support. It also says individual communities cannot prohibit sales.

Temper your enthusiasm, Gov. Christie has a history of pissing on parades.

The NJ state assembly passed the Fireworks Bill. It's now up to our "Beloved Leader" to sign it!

It is exciting that legalization is being considered in NJ. I guess safe and is ok for now but that really is not the meat and potatoes of the firework sales revenue. Most of the revenue comes with the sale of Ariel fireworks and firecrackers if New Jersey only limits itself to sell just safe and sane products buyers are still going to cross state lines to buy Ariel fireworks and firecrackers. I really think they should sell everything and create a system to help consumers use and posses fireworks. All municipalities should work with the seller to assure a safe place to detonate the bigger items. Yes there are urban areas in New Jersey which safe and sane would be the better option due to the close proximity of buildings and people. However there are more suburban and rural areas to where Ariel items can be used such areas have space to shoot the good stuff.

Well said zenith, thats our thoughts in ny as well. Safe and sane is a start to allowing fireworks in a state and after a while expansion definitely needs to be considered.
