I'm going to be helping at some local fire department training's and wondered if anyone had experience with inert shells / Inert Cross Section of a display shell for training purposes. Where did you get them? All I have managed to find is Kastner. It's not necessary but I thought it would be interesting. Thanks in advance!

I found them as well but holy crap the prices. It will be a pain but I might just build my own. I do a lot of work in cosplay props, don't think it will be that hard to make half of a inert shell. Thanks for the reply.

Wouldn't be hard to make some... There are a few places to buy them but as djsmurf said they are a bit expensive... Cross section shells would be quite expensive... I've got a few cross sectioned shot gun shells in my collection that cost $100+ each. For a dummy shell at a class i took, the guy put a empty leader on a base ball wrapped with an old lift cup... Even put an old 1.3 label on it

I'm going to build some, think I have the process already figured out. Already have everything ordered, I'll post some pictures once their finished. It would be nice if I could produce them for a decent price, would not mind making some for others.

Would try to stay away from any actual comp.... Use some black spray painted rice for break, some painted marbles or bb's for stars.... Use some flat black... Or black primer...would look more like bp

do you have a better link to INERT shells not just the home page?

FYI--I have heard of people usinc coal to simulate the black powder coated rice hulls and .177cal pellets for small stars. Also .50cal lead balls painted for 1/2" stars in 6" inert display shells. You can use block hobby balsa wood to cut any size square "cut stars" you want. Also. you can use coffee grounds to simulate the BP for the lift charge. Lots of options. Be creative & let us see what you come up with as a final product.

Call Lynch up 812-623-0099 , ask for steve. tell them the shells were listed at their demo on April 29th. Thats when I picked them up.
Hope this was helpful.

I could not find them on lynch's site, but I'm not looking for an entire shell, I want a cross cut section of a loaded shell.

I used charcoal to coat the rice hulls, they turned out nice. I had rolled a few sets of stars from different things however ended up using clay in a .50cal bullet press, working on painting them. I'll get some pictures up as I make more progress.

Making progress is an understatment. Are you going to use charcoal covered rice hulls for the lift too? What are you using to fix everything in place?

Great job Smurf!!! Are you going to put a leader on it with a lift bag? Maybe use a thin piece of plexiglass over the front to hold it together for display?

Progress update, added leader, lift, and a rising effect (think it is to big). Thanks for the kind words guys! I'm planning to use a clear lacquer to keep everything in place. 2153

Rising effect can never be too big, lol. Nice work!

Now dangle a short string of 1.5" ball shells off of it.

Thanks! I might do one with rising ball shell breaks, however I would want to do it on a bigger shell. Excuse to make a 10"
