First please excuse the chicken scratch sketch but looking for the simplest option to mount mines to allow timed fan effect. I could make a more elaborate curved base option but thought this would suffice.
I basically want to drill holes in the vertical piece of plywood at the proper angles and simply secure the mines in a fan shap pattern like the sketch with the base of the mine sitting on a 2x4 rail. I guess my only concern would be that the base of the mine is not flat against the 2x4 rail but I think that this designs would be secure enought to work OK. At a minimum a portion of the mine base would be in contact with the 2x4. The mines have a solid plastic base.

Input is appreciated.

This pic is from a show we did and is exactly what you are trying to do but with Candles in it. I do not recall what the candles are sitting on because I have not seen/used this support in a couple of years. I dont think mines would cause any issue with how you have it setup currently though.

Instead of zipties though, I would use the proper size metal adjustable hose clamps.

The 2" [50mm] mines have a pretty hefty "wallop" when they ignite & do need at least part of the base in solid contact with the bottom plate to prevent the bottom plug from blowing out. You should be OK with what you want to do.
If this is a rack you plan to use repeatedly you might want to consider cutting some angled pieces to glue on the bottom board to "set"your angles--then you would have 100% contact with the bases--and a much more stable rack.

On the zip ties--I recently read [elsewhere] a discussion where it said they were not to be used to secure mines and candles anymore--although I am sure many people [myself included] will continue to use them. Just make sure they are double secured with good quality zip ties. I don't recall if it was NFPA or one of the other "alphabet" organizations. If you aren't shooting commercially it isn't a big deal.

Thanks for the input. I went a ahead and fabricated it pretty much as the sketch. It will definitely be OK. I also added some space to sit the 18m so I can fully wire it before taking to shoot site. http://www.pyrotalk.com/bulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=2091&stc=1http://www.pyrotalk.com/bulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=2092&stc=1http://www.pyrotalk.com/bulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=2093&stc=1http://www.pyrotalk.com/bulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=2094&stc=1

esgrillo, how long is that rack? When I saw your sketch, I started trying to design one based on your plans. Are those mines 50mm on the outside of the mortar? How tall are they. I ended up having the mines held in place by pipe clamps with the intention of being bolted in pairs to the center plywood. They sit on plywood that's had a radius cut so they're all making contact directly though the 2x6 to the plywood base. When I saw your handle on yours, I had to add it.

24". I am using 40mm mines for the rack.

First of all, I hate you people. Having said that... You guys should sell those plans so mechanically deficient people like me can try to build nice racks like that. :o

Seriously.. Nice work! I'd love to see the final product.

lol... If I did it again I would make the rack a little wider so the end tube does not overhang. Had to add another zip tie secure point to the tops and was not able to do it on the end without adding a rod to secure. Oh well you have to use what is laying around the garage.
