Mortar rack build job!

Now that my new Cora system is in hand I had to get to work building racks and then of course had to get them dirty!
First time trying out the Cobra, boy was that fun!

It's a ton of work but they are built to last! I started with 10 racks of ten with the goal of building a finale rack of 40, after testing it I loved it so much that I built another finale rack of 40, now of course PyroBoom will be getting another order for 100 tubes so I can finish her up!
It will be an awesome finale with 80 mortar shots and cakes added!

Very nice looking racks Mike! I've always admired you guys with the skills to build things like this. I could spend a year trying to do that and I'd still wind up using a debit card to order them online.

You indicated above it was a blast using your Cobra to launch some shells. Just curious what method you used. Did you daisy chain the mortars with visco and use talons? Or did you use firewire initiators on each shell?

I wanted to test a rapid fire finale scenario so I tied each mortar fuse together in a chain and did a separate talon for each chain, then all 4 talons into 1 Que on the 18M. No Visco used as the mortar fuses were long enough to tape together. turned out nice but next weekend I'm going to retest with a different layout, Visco and 1 talon and see how that works.
I have a pic on my phone but of course my battery is dead so I can't get to it!

I did a rack like that for New Years Eve. For the 4th I do 3/4 sec per ft fuse on all my racks. They all launch really fast and it makes for a nice finale.

I wired up a full finale rack and a 20 shot rack but it was way to windy to fire, safety first! Going to try again Saturday night but adding more racks and some cakes to really put the Cobra to the test. I'll post pics and video!

Today's project!
More tubes came yesterday from PyroBoom so today it was time to get back to work!
I decided to build some fan racks, royal pain in the butt, however, it will pay off come the the 4th!
I'll have to decide whether to fire as a fan or wire them up to create a zipper, now that would be cool!2121212221232124

Very nice clean looking racks, I've got one fanned 15 shot rack with tubes between the rows of tubes for roman candles.... Usually use it for mine-to-break shells, with a couple salute candles in between.... Like the handles on the racks, that's going to be a team lift...

They look fantastic.

They might be easier to stack and store if all the mortars sat flush on the bottom of the rack fanned. Just a thought. Good build though. They will give many years of fun safely.

I laid them out as you have suggested but I didn't like the look, I decided to do the extra work and have them actually look like a fan, well worth it! I agree with the stacking and storage but at this point it's not a concern. As I get bigger I will have to consider those scenarios!

They are the 12" DR11's from Pyroboom for canister shells. I load Excal's into them and they work great!
