I gave Chris the OK to post this video, I tried to sign this business up as an advertiser but they did not want to. The real question here is, can quick match be sold as an item that does not require an ATF license and shipped through the mail? Is that roll of quick match any different than any other roll of quick match?

Chris--the quick match from Marc IS perchlorate based--regardless of what is being said about it--there are only two types of QM out there--black match which is 1.3g & perchlorate which is 1.4g. There has been a lot of controversy over the perc based QM--it burns VERY violently & isn't good for chaining cakes and shells--it is ok for leaders for shells.
There was a recent post on a building forum about the Chinese adding charcoal to the perc composition to make black so it looks like black match because the people were shying away from the grey 5 strand perk QM. Chinese Ingenuity!! LOL.
An easy test is to take a single strand about 6" long & [carefully] light it. Black march burns slowly---perc will burn instantaneously.

I would like to see it close up so we can learn something here, I have seen red rolls of quick match and wonder if this is what I saw? Is there a quick way to identify it? It did not look gray in the video. What is the fuel if perk is the oxidizer?

I don't know what the formulation of it is Dave--only that it is Perchlorate based.
I'm going to a club shoot in a couple weeks--I can see if anyone has some. I've seen it in both Red & Blue jacket---but mostly Red.

Up until this year it was easy to identify with the grey strands but since they pulled the "charcoal camouflage". A burn test is the only 100% sure way to ID it....short of chemical testing to differentiate a Nitrate & Chlorate.
I know lots of people that cut quick match with scissors and I don't have a problem with that--but the perc stuff could be dangerous.
Also, it will detonate if hit with a hammer........

I wonder if that Chinese guy that came up with adding charcoal to color it got a bonus for Chinese New Year. They are master of deception with this pyro stuff. I have some of this as well. The ones I have and the ones I have seen all have come in the flat, red plastic jacket like shown in the video and like pyroJoe mentioned above, it burns ridiculously violent. They are also gray-ish strands.

I'v cut a 12" piece of it off before, secured it down on a piece of plywood, inserted some visco in the end, lit it and when the visco reaches the QM, it sounds like a firecracker going off. :D
