[QUOTE][how much lift , how much water? how much gas is needed in a 6 inch wide by 20 inches high??????????/QUOTE]

That tube will hold 2 gal of gas. Put enough water in the bottom just to cover the lift charge. The "slug" of water acts like the wadding in a canon--directing the gas straight up and out so it doesn't spray on the ground around the tube.
Rule of thumb for lift charge is 1.25oz [40 grams] of 2FA Black Powder per gallon--so you will need 2.5 oz of Black Powder. Some people put a pinch of titanium in it, but we have never done that. Use a PET bottle [purchase at Uline] or a HDPE pill bottle.
Hope this helps.

Nice, once people upload pictures sometimes I can make them display full size. However you uploaded this one I was able to do that. This way we can really see it. It looks like you know what you are doing. On the one on the right. Those four gussets on the bottom of the pipe, what is that bolt looking thing. Are those screwed into the pipe? Or, what is that? Did you put something at the bottom to hold the light charge down?

LOL!!!!!!! Dave, the larger one on the right is aluminum and the base is steel so i couldn't weld so i drilled and bolted the gussets, i welded a bolt on the bottom of the plate and bent it to take a wire tire around the lift bottle to secure it. Also to make the tube and base sealed/water tight i applied Seam sealer , i tested today for leaks and there is none !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That video was from 2014. Here is the mortar in action at my sportsman club fireworks display later that year. Scott is a member on the forums, maybe he can answer some of the questions you may have. You are going to need a salute to add to the effect of the flame balls. That is my opinion. You need some kind of audible boom to make the effect more dramatic . Now that I really look at this I wonder if two nuts welded to the bottom would be beneficial. Belt tie it down in a left and right fashion. This way you can use a plastic belt tie to hold the bottle down from floating. You can see Scott used double sided tape.

I found this video from 2014. A man that follows my videos gave this mortar to be. I like something he did on this mortar. You should consider it also. Once you determine what the water amount should be make a little weld mark like there i son mine. This way when you add the water you will know how much to put it referencing the mark.
