I know some of the first fire extinguishers were glass balls and mounted in your house. My friend has a few in his house, look pretty cool.

They are quite expensive but pretty cool and require no action.

Did anyone watch the video where he took one apart. It looks like quick match with flash powder in the center. From what I read about them, the contents are non-toxic. I see they sell them on eBay. The hardest part of the project is finding the styrofoam globe.
That Red Ball glass is a collectable antique. Your friend must live in a very old house to have those Red Balls

I believe this picture is from New Zealand. You just do not see these in United States. I still say it would be a fun project. Wonder what the white powder is?

We used to own a Fire Protection Company back in the day and have taken out some older versions of these. They were primarily filled with Carbon Tetrachloride....which could bevery dangerous to humans if released in confined spaces it robs the air of all oxygen so you would asphyxiate.... There were also some filled with Halon. These are similar but seem to have different agents in them.

I'm, well, kind of shocked that this moron's ignorant and dangerous acts would be posted on this site. Idiot knows NOTHING about fireworks or explosives (calls flash mixture 'gunpowder'). I'm very disappointed that this fool's video was posted on here. He's a detriment to those of us who legally use fireworks. And only adds fuel to the anti-fireworks crowd.

At RalphJ. I know nothing about the man that made the video. I posted it because he is the only video I saw where someone takes one of these devices apart. Of course he knows nothing about fireworks. However, his video taught us the basic components of how these are made. It is a learning event. I never knew these existed until recently.
The main ingredient in these is mono ammonium phosphate. It appears to be a type of fertilizer.

Lighten up. Maybe you can join the PGIs anti-Super C task force. Most non fireworks people don't know the proper terminology.
