Portable LED Lights

If you saw my July 4th video you may remember me using portable LED lights (rated at 20 Watt) with my generator. I recently purchased another LED light rated at 100. I figured it had to be brighter than my current 20 Watt lights. I ran a test and here is the video. If you know something about these portable LED and size etc, please comment.
I think I can make an exception to posting links to business websites on this one. What lights do you use if any for clean up on your fireworks display? I also posted an unlisted video to Matt’s truck light bar. Which I must say is very impressive.

Ill add what I can. Wattage in regards to led brightness is meaningless. Total circuit efficiency has a large impact on what it will draw from the power source. The best way to compare would be total lumens. That 20 or 100 watt rating is just to let you know what it will draw from the outlet, its not like an incandescent bulb where more wattage automatically equals a brighter light.

I use an led flashlight myself when checking everything out haven't really paid attention to the specifics of the wattage or lumens but it's pretty bright and works great.

Food for thought. How about elevating the lights? I've never seen street lights at ground level.

We use a pair of lighting tripods with "T" bars on top with four PAR39 9 LED cans on each. They can go up in the air 8-9 feet. The nice thing about them is each unit has two pigtails coming out the back--one with a male & one with a female AC plug so you can plug them into each other without needing an outlet strip. Unfortunately, they are no longer available. :-( They are very bright & run off of a DC-AC inverter in the truck. Very bright & the "T" bar lets you turn them & aim them side to side or up & down wherever you need them.
The CrackerJacks also got 8 of them with "T" bars and the "extra tall" lighting stands that lets you put them up over 12 feet.
They were sold by MCM Electronics under the branding "Stellar Labs".
They are advertised a s "for indoor use only" but we have used them for two or three seasons now & they work great.

I am thinking of getting several of the "chip LED" work lights & mounting them in the same way as these are--one of the fire companies had a couple with a generator at one of our shows and I was impressed with the light output.

My thoughts, your 20w yellow light is using chip-on-board or COB type led, the other 100w light is using surface mounted device modules. COB lights output more lumens/watt (lm/watt). Likely why your getting similar brightness with a considerable watt difference. For brightness you want to look at lumens, which interestingly enough in not provided on either light. I built the lights I use and just stick them on top of some 10 foot backdrop tripods I use for photography. I believe they are 27w COB led's, the bar holds 4. works well for a bunch of different things. Similar brightness to a 4000 lumens flashlight I have, just better ground coverage. I'll get some photos or video up if I can.

When I buy any of these LED portable lights in the future I am going to get that single square LED. I ordered another LED and when it arrives I do a video of that one. It is reportedly rated at 30 Watt. We shall see.

I would like to find that light bar that runs on house current. I have one more portable light coming in the mail. I believe it is rated at 30 watts. It is a single yellow looking LED. When I receive it I may do another video and test the wattage with my meter. I may also connect all of my portable lights together and see what that reveals as far as light and wattage.
Where do they sell that big monster one they use for the highway workers on the road at night?

I would like to price out the large light without the generator. They are smart why sell you just a light. I want to get that light that lets me tell the fire department after the show they can go home. I don't need their light. LOL

These are the lights I used in my most recent video. They actually illuminated the shoot site very nice. I know these lights were for sale on eBay. I bought the yellow bar ones at a separate site but I can not remember the name of the site. Getting all that light for 180 Watts is pretty good in my opinion. I wanted to measure the watts used for my setup and included it on this unlisted video.

I powered up an LED light this weekend to work on a project at home and I thought of this post for LED lights. In the chance that anyone is interested, I thought I would share - even though this is a year old post (I guess this is what you call necro-ing a post )

Utilitech Pro 2-Light 36-Watt LED Stand Work Light


The pros of this LED light is that it raises up high on the integrated tri-pod and it packs up nice and clean, unlike some of the other tri-pod stands. You could probably set it in a larger mortar when hauling or storing.

I haven't tested it the power consumption, but it states 36W which would be close to the average watts of the lights in the previous video posted (180W/6 = 30W).

Mine has been sitting out of the rain, but in the elements since last October as shown in the photos. It lit right up when turned on.

Flashlights are another weird fascination of mine,I've been collecting them for years.My most power full is a Olight SR96 intimidator LED flashlight.Rated at 4800 lumens.Came with a carry case and shoulder strap.Shoots a beam like you wouldn't believe.

I have had this light before and you can put it in the middle of a football field on hi-power and play a game, it is really that bright and still only listed as 14,000 lumens.

I sell a few lights to emergency services and of course they demand a whole different level of quality, dependability, and truthful advertising of course.

There is so much I do not know about LED lights, but I do know that what the reflector is made of and how it is cut makes a lot of difference. There are different qualities of LED's and different manufacturers run them at different percentages of their max power along with a lot of other technology involved. The information and opinions are endless on why one is better than the other.
