Thinking about attending the PGI display fireworks shooters course and 1.3 demo at Kellners on April 9th. Thought it might be a good way to start learning about 1.3g and meet some new people.

I was thinking the same thing. I have been doing consumer displays for the 4th of July for quite some time now. Figured it is time to bump it up a notch.

I'd highly encourage people who want to get the 54 to first go to a demo and attend a shooters course. You can teach safety but not stupid... lol. Join a pyro club... work for a display company. I did both before getting my own 54

Great advice!
It's kind of scary sometimes hearing about people with no experience at all with 1.3 getting their 54 with no training or exposure under their belt what so ever.
It's Almost as scary as a couple of people that was in the CPL class I just took that has never even held a fire arm in their entire life being turned loose into society to carry a loaded weapon on them.

Yea I hear what your saying fella. Just because you have been shooting fireworks and now you want to get into the world of 1.3 really requires the safety aspect of it. I mean yeah maybe not so much if you you want to do is add TK's to your show but once you start moving into display shells this is where the danger factor increases. Proper safety equipment/gear.. distances from the audience/Buildings if applicable.. proper training.. all need to be taken into consideration. Like I mentioned.... get certified and trained first.. it makes more sense

Sent in registration. I agree with all above, I am as pro gun as anyone but an idiot with a gun is a dangerous thing and just makes it that much harder to make headway down the road with gun laws. Just like me doing something stupid with fireworks don't do anyone any good.

The class is being held just up the road from their shop. The building is signed with Westley Grange. It looks like it is an old white building. I will be attending the PGI course on Saturday. Which day are you scheduled for?

Just got back from Kellner Fireworks Open Shoot Night. The weather was rain and cold with a temperature of 37 degrees. Here is short video of the rain on the way up. Also in the video are the non-regulated electric match Kellner is selling. These are new to me. I will try to post some pictures from the demo soon.

Here are some still pictures from Kellner Fireworks Open Shoot. April 7, 2016. It is always nice for me to meet some of the people watching my video or those that I helped become ATF licensed. To further stop these false rumors that enthusiast in New York State can not obtain an ATF Fireworks License, an enthusiast that purchase my ATF DVD/Application just obtained his license. Not only in New York State , he lives in an apartment in New York City.
.
It was cold and raining however, the turn out was good.

Double check your crystal ball. I helped many people from New York State including the man near Syracuse. If I talk to someone and they tell me they live in an apartment in New York City, i have no reason to doubt them. I mentioned him to reference that irrespective of where you physically live, you can obtain an ATF Fireworks License. As a matter of record, that pyrotechnic club in New York State should be absorbing all these newly licensed people. I often wonder if any of these so called pyrotechnic clubs ever look for new members. I just do not hear of it.

I think it's more of a matter of people that want to join don't know where to start looking. I think I found the NHPA on the internet using a search engine but a lot of the newer members have joined from word of mouth

It is not that people don't know where to start looking. These fireworks clubs including the PGI are the ones that don't look for people. The organizations have to recruit, not wait for someone to discover them or even know they exist. Perhaps these small local clubs may want to be selective about new people, they need to come up with a screening process of some sort. What excuse does the PGI have as far as new membership? Are they actively out there recruiting? I don't see it. Does the biggest fireworks enthusiast organization in United States just wait to be discovered by someone ambitious enough to search them out? Or, do they create a recruitment and promotional program. This is why whomever is going to run that PGI as an officer needs to be proactive and get themselves out there and change this. With an organization of that size it should be a full time paid position for at least one or two people, this is why years back I was in favor of hiring someone for the job. Problem was a group of members was against it.

Interesting point. I've have been enjoying 1.4 for over 40 years and until recently just began searching out sites (such as this one) to further my hobby and chat with fellow
enthusiasts. How do they recruit, inform or even know that someone like me is out there. I agree that these clubs and orgs. need to put it out there so that I know they exist,
do they solicit member list from sites like this one, mailing list from sellers, pyro you tube subscribers or whatever. Interesting topic and interesting puzzle. PBP

Each club out there are different. Some are very public in getting recruits....some wish to be more private for various reasons.
I think we need to respect that of those clubs.
I belong to 2 clubs that USE to have a website - but the website was not kept up,nor fees paid so they are not out there anymore.
I also belong to a LOCAL pyro club - and that is all they want - local folks only.....

Problem was a group of members was against it.
The Crackeracks is always looking to add members to the club. In fact, they are having a membership drive right now. We have members from many states in the club and have shoots in PA & VA. Our next event will be here in PA on May 20 & 21st. If you would like info on the event, or are interested in joining, drop me a PM.
Also, the Crackerjacks is a club that encourages "builders" of shells, rockets, etc. There are some very talented pyros in the club it is a great way to learn, be mentored, or see if the building aspect of pyrotechnics is for you. Not everyone is a builder---lots of people are "drop & light" pyros. There is a niche for everyone in this club. You can check out the club web site here:

Like I said, if you are interested in hooking up with a lot of like minded people, drop me a PM for more information.
PS---the May event will showcase several PyroMusicals in a competition as the main event on Sat night. Yours truly will be involved as a member of the "Team Coal Cracker".
