Need a couple of helpers for local South Pittsburgh fireworks display this Saturday Feb 13. This is a advanced 1.3 backyard display by a person I helped get his ATF license. All I can promise is you will be cold and work for free. Local Pittsburgh people only, it is not worth long distance travel.

I ask him how close his neighbors are? There will be at least one 10 inch shell.
We will probably be using the Cobra's and FireTEK both. We will see how well they do in the cold. Temp for Saturday High 15 degrees and Low of 1 Degree.
And I leaving all the firing system on the ground LOL Because that is how we roll.

To those I communicated with by text, phone and email etc.
If you wish to bring fireworks you have permission to do so, that includes 1.4 and 1.3 product. You do not have to bring product, but if you want to you can.

We have a 1.3 order for pick up at XFX Fireworks. If you are licensed you can add to the display or bring what you want.

Still waiting to get final details like time to meet etc.

Bring the usual pyro stuff . hammer , eye and ear protection. torch or flares , flashlight . Whatever else you can think of. I will bring my generator , portable lights , if you have portable lights bring them we can plug them in to my generator. He said he will feed us some hamburger and hot-dogs. He will also build a fire for some heat.
Now it looks like the high will be 13 and low of 3. LOL All we need is some wind. LOL

As far as Cobras in the cold, I believe with fresh batteries they will be fine. One trick I've seen is taking off the battery cover and putting a hand warmer packet against the batteries and reinstall the cover? And also some of the new battery options are supposed to hold up even better.

I had the Cobra out in the cold before. The FireTEK is the one I really need to test. I will need to keep the batteries separate. Would not be fair to base the system on portable batteries. Depending on the shoot site I may just set the rails in the snow. Most of this display may be hand lighting. I will get some of it on a firing system for testing purposes.

Comets, meteors and cakes will all be e-fired. We have about 110 shells in body of show ranging from 3-4-5 inch. We can set up some to be e-fired by fire-Tek. Plenty of room to place racks in positions for testing. Also, we have about 10 yung feng shells ranging 4 through 10 inch that only have a port on them for e-fire.

Lining up to be a good show. Will def be cold but we will still have a great day. 11 cakes. Over 200+ shells. (As of now). Shoot time is looking like 645-7pm

One item you all will definitely want to bring and would probably forget about, Sunglasses!! With snow on the ground and being out in it all day it will blind the heck out of ya!!

I like fireworks, I REALLY like them BUT 9 degrees little to cold for fireworks for me.
Licensed TODAY! Could run to kellner's and get a few things to say I got it!! But no way!

Did a new years eve a few years ago, 15 degrees, shoveled a foot+ of snow out for 2 racks, set it all up, 3 layers of clothes and warm batteries, Firing system 10 minutes to hook it up...DEAD nothing. Then trying to light the torch with gloves on and run through the small shoveled path... not fun...

I want to see the video DAVE when it is done!! (should be interesting)

With the shoot time closer, does look like it will be cold. Winds should be calm for a 7 pm shoot time, looks like they do pick up just after 8 pm. Sorry I enjoy weather forecasting as well. I just loaded the GoPro video onto my computer. Here is a small clip. We used two Cobra Remotes on this display also. This allowed Amber to fire some of the display. The extreme cold was taking its toll on the batteries for the Cobra. Although I did not put in new batteries prior to the display. As soon as we fired up the remotes low battery was showing. The good news is the Cobra Remotes still ran for at least 20 minutes and never failed. Both the FireTek and Cobra sat outside most of the day in the cold.

At CTPYRO

If I was doing this display for a professional company and the backhoe did not show up to dig the hole as was the case here. I would not shoot the larger shells. The clearance on this site was massive and the only audience was the people that showed up to help shoot the display. I could have easily edited all of what happened out of my videos and pictures but I decided not to. This was a private fireworks display on a massive piece of property so we went for it. It was a risky maneuver for sure.

Thanks to all who came out and helped!! We hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as we did! Hoping to make it an annual event! Something to look forward to after the holidays and to get us thru the last few weeks of winter! Hopefully it won't be as cold next time but after what we shot in on Saturday, can it get any colder?? I watched your video posted on this show and the 10" mortar broke free from the strap and did damage to the trailer. I hope you and the team learned from this and will rethink your safety processes. at Ctpyro said, illegal and unsafe.

dave, i'd have helped but didn't see this post until now. i had my g.f. in town all week/weekend. suppose it would've been bad form to leave her behind to work pyro. (she lives in Ohio...)
