Hey everyone. I've been doing a july 4th fireworks show up at my camp the last few years and I always utilize mortar shells pretty heavily. I was just looking for some tips on putting mortar racks together. I was looking to do a couple 20 shot racks, what diameter tubes should I be getting for them?

For consumer it is the typical DR11 12" ones... They are setup perfect for consumer mortar's..... Consumer marotar run 1.75" and tubes run about 1.91 to 2"

I think that the prices as pyroboom.com are pretty good for the dr11's

Check out the video Dave posted from Kellners demo weekend, 366 salutes or something like that. I showed a way to make racks out of consumer mortars that works quite well. You always have piles of consumer mortars laying around from the shell kits, put them to good use.

Some of your smaller festival ball type shells will be loose in a dr11, if that's the case use dr9 and you won't have problems with low breaks

Mortars and tubes are the same thing. 1.75" shells use dr11 1.91 mortars (tubes). Festival balls and smaller shells use dr9 or smaller.

Maybe to also add to the clarity....most canister shells are for dr11.....way too snug for a dr9

Thanks all, that's definitely helpful. I checked out Pyroboom, looks like they got some pretty good deals on tubes

jeter501 if you are in the Buffalo area I can help you make some racks. I have a decent workshop and have all the tools needed. Plus I just built some so the measurements and stuff are in my head!
Here is an example shot of some racks I just built:

Those are great looking racks, i'm actually down in the albany area. Any advice for materials for putting these things together? I was thinking just go beefy with the wood for it and put some screw eyes on the sides so they can be pegged in with rebar(I do my shooting from a beach)

Can someone give me a measurement for the bottom rail ? I used 3/4 inch osb at 4 inches in height. Is that ok? Its not taller then the plug.

Your bottom rail should never be higher than your plug. In a blow out your trying to keep the bottom rail from getting hit.
