In a few short days my very own neighborhood will witness its first scripted show via Celebration Fireworks of Slatington, Pa.
Im thoroughly excited to show everyone that I have grown up with and all the others who have known my family for years and years, what I love to do.
Years and years ago when I was just a wee tyke, we used to have a 4th of July celebration. It was complete with parade, games, vendors, clowns etc. Just no fireworks... ever!
Until one year, it just disappeared. I never really thought anything of it after that. If I did, it was usually while reminiscing with friends and what-not.
The next big thing I do remember happening in the community, was its 50th Birthday. That was 13 years ago. At that event, it did have fireworks. That was just a hand lit show with no way, shape or form about it. Cakes here... shells there and vise-versa.
Of course, however, it was still awesome... duh!
Then after that, nothing!
Until one day about 4 months ago, I took a walk down to our community building/office to get a copy of a key for my door locks.
In I walked, to the office filled with baskets and baskets of what looked to be raffle prizes and flyers all over the place saying "4th of July Parade". I proceeded to ask what was going on. The secretary... whom I have known for years asked me if I remembered the parades we used to have.... I said "Of course!".... she then told me they were bringing the whole event back complete with fireworks...all donation/fund raiser driven. I said "Wow, really?" So I told her that I was a pyrotechnician and if they didnt have anyone yet... I knew just the company. She was super surprised that I was a pyro and she didnt even know it. So she told me that the company they were looking into was recommended by the fire-marshal of our area who has dealt with CelFire before. At this time I still didnt know it was CelFire putting together the script. She then showed me the information letter... and there it was across the top "Celebrations Fireworks" on the header. I laughed and said "You got to be kidding me... That's who I was going to say!!" She then laughed as well and said, "Thats Incredible!" I told her to be prepared for an amazing show as this community has not ever seen a show of this style. Or at least any proper fireworks show for that matter.
So I ended up making some moves... now Im working the show. Its going to be a splendid time.
I am also having one of my buddies professionally video and edit the event in HD/sound. This I will be paying for out of my own pocket.
