I don't like the idea of big brother and checkpoints. America is becoming too militarized. What about personal responsibility without the big brother nanny state always controlling, watching and checking on every behavior.

Well I dont think anybody likes any type of checkpoints. However in areas that are HIGH FIRE DANGER like in the forest or wooded areas where you have camping or recreation, I dont mind a checkpoint.

Look at Yosemite. Could you Imagine what would have happened if it would have been caused by fireworks!

There are many places that are appropriate for lighting fireworks in Washington. The parks, forest, or woodlands are obviously not the place.

There is a Large Lighting Area in BINGEN Washington. Called the MARINA.

There is a few FIRETRUCKS there too. So everybody can enjoy lighting your FIREWORKS in a safe place.

The Firefighters are pretty cool, and enjoy the fireworks too.

This is why I like to Focus on SafetY and the Need For Check points In national Parks Forests and Camping areas that are at high risk of Fire.

Interesting comments made just over a year ago. One year later a 74 year old Socialist named Bernie Sanders has a huge following. More people than ever before are actually favoring a nanny state over the democracy our founders envisioned. A truly scary development IMHO.

Having said that.... I see the need for checkpoints for certain things at certain times for certain reasons. If everyone was responsible and always used good judgment, we could eliminate checkpoints and police departments too for that matter. Unfortunately, this is not the case. However, there is a fine line the authorities need to walk between keeping us safe and infringing on our civil rights.

Hopefully those of us who spend thousands of dollars every 4th of July to celebrate our independence, also spend time reflecting on the sacrifices that made our freedom possible. Hopefully we spend time throughout the year educating the younger generation on what democracy really means. The right to pursue happiness was never meant to be a guarantee of achieving happiness or having the government provide you with cradle to grave entitlements. That fact seems to have gotten lost the past decade or so.

Listen if someone's idiocy only means they blow their own head off by holding a mortar over their head, by all means go out and idiotically kill yourself. However, like CA says - an irresponsible person in an extremely dry forest area can have a huge impact on many many other people. it is at this point that being allowed to be an irresponsible idiot is no longer about your civil liberties, it is about everyone else's.
