From the web.
Chinese fireworks are not permitted to be imported and sold in India. However they apparently find their way in. My guess is the quality of domestic fireworks is not as good as Chinese fireworks.

SIVAKASI: Sivakasi, the fireworks hub of country with 700 odd fireworks units, is buzzing with outlets selling fireworks. However, manufacturers are keeping their fingers crossed as Chinese fireworks smuggled into the country illegally are taking its toll on their business in the market.
V Kesavan of Nayagi Fireworks said retail business is picking up in Sivakasi Town. "After pooja holidays, retail sales has really gained steam and many outlets have come up," he said. The manufacturers have come out with various gift packs and new variety of fireworks for this year as well.

Rajasingh Chelladurai of Jumbo Fireworks said there is lot of creativity among fireworks manufacturers as third generation of entrepreneurs have taken charge of the companies. "There are lot of miniature varieties of all fireworks. This year, we are introducing crackers manufactured entirely through mechanization. The results will be good for these machine-made crackers and they will be below permitted noise level," he said. Likewise, many manufacturers have come out with a variety of pyro-techniques and colour combination of aerial fireworks, industry sources said
