Authorities in southern Pennsylvania say explosions that started in a garage where fireworks were stored flung burning debris across a cornfield and injured several people.

Lancaster Newspapers (http://bit.ly/1xekXGO ) report that two people were taken to hospitals following the Sunday fires. One person's injuries were not considered life-threatening while no information was available on the other. Two or three other people suffered minor injuries.

The newspapers report that there were multiple explosions, and scattered burning debris started small fires across a 3-acre cornfield.

The garage and a trailer were destroyed, cars were damaged and some nearby homes were evacuated.

The explosions occurred near Mayfield, a small town about 30 miles southeast of Harrisburg.

Thank God nobody got seriously hurt! I hate to see this kind of thing happen but its part of a pyro's life. I have to say its like anything else in life like driving a car, climbing a mountain, flying a plane or anything else for that matter, there could always be that one time. I work on motorcycles for a living and just the small amount of time I spend test riding bikes I feel 10 times more likely to get hurt or killed from other drivers than from my hobby of fireworks. The stat's don't lie, Way more people die every year from walking down the street and getting hit by vehicles than any fireworks ever had. Just very glad everyone for the most part is ok.

I believe we have a few pyrotalk members that live near this general area. Maybe they can tell us more. When I hear about these events I always am curious if electric match is involved.

I do not see this persons name on my ATF license list as having his own license. He may be an Employee Possessor on Schaefer Pyrotechnics located in Lancaster County. Its unfortunate, now comes the questions from the ATF and insurance carriers.
Trying to salvage bad fireworks or poorly fused fireworks is always risky.

Wait, were these display fireworks? If so, they're lucky not to get hurt.

Schaeffer has been under scrutiny for the past few years anyway -

if the garage was in fact , full of fireworks as the story claims - this would be a good example of the danger of "mass ignition" that the hazmat categories describe .

I have also heard this, from someone who used to be on the inside none-the-less.
