Pyrotechnician video from North Carolina .
I ran across this video on YouTube. It looks like they followed a pyro-technician Jeff Hale. I thought it was well produced. Check it out. I think Jeff stole one of my lines at the 9:39 mark. LOL

Well made video! I always find it fascinating in the set up of the racks and how it varies from state to state. Here in New England it's different in CT,Mass and New Hampshire regarding spacing between racks and the use of nail guns or double headed nails...

Agreed on seeing the different set ups CTPYRO. The "herring bone" and straps looks easy to set up, break down, and seems safer for "pulling shells" or the body of a show IMHO. Sure would be nice if in MA or NH you could just use chains or ratchet straps to secure Openers, Mids and Finale racks. Love to see how a typical CT show is set up ;)

Here in CT when we hand fire the body we " Cube " the racks for pulling shells ( Body of the show )....use the same strapping wood as mass/NH.. but we use a nail gun.. fast and easy. Finale's are set up the same as this video but we run long strips of wood to the ends of the rack. If E-fired then we run the racks side by side with small spacing between

I remember back in the day being at the Zambelli plant and seeing this bizarre looking display shells rack and asking what the hell is that. Someone told me it was for use in one of the New England states. I remember it being longer than usual and the spacing between the mortars was larger. Can anyone find a picture of a "New England" rack to post? It would be great to see one.
I know some people criticize using the straps to hold these mortar racks together and feel nails are the only way to go. I initially thought the straps were a lazy way to set up. However, the more I think about it, straps on a three inch finale may be Ok. I would recommend the strapping be done differently. Currently you see one strap for the entire finale. I would recommend strapping using more than one strap. For example using 10 three inch racks. Strap 5 together , then another 5 together, followed with another strap holding all 10 racks. Total of three straps.
