I am trying to do follow up on some of the fireworks accidents I covered on the forums. I will include a few pictures and video of this one in Canada with BEM Fireworks. This was a warehouse of consumer fireworks. When I first heard about this I was thinking how in the hell did a warehouse of consumer fireworks go up in flame. Well guess what, our friend "Electric Match" may again be the cause. It appears the two women that died may have been preparing the consumer fireworks with igniters on the site of the warehouse. Please watch the video in this link. Canada may have rules about modifying explosives on site.
Listen to the video in particular at 1:45 minutes.

These official investigation take time. Here we go again with electric match placed in product on the site.

This practice of adding the electric match and storing and/or shipping product is nothing but trouble. I can't believe the ATF allows this practice. But then again there was that event a year or so back where they were fusing in back of the truck at the shoot site and had an accident. I am still waiting for someone to reveal what caused that July 4th accident in Texas. For some reason I am suspecting electric match on that one also.
When I was working on some of the large pyro-musicals with Zambelli, the shells never came with electric match, we placed every shell in the mortar and then added the electric match. I was in shock when I saw another company open a case of display shells on the shoot site and saw the match already in the shells. It is however done all the time. apparently it is legal to do so.
For those new to fireworks, did you hear the person in the video say, water has little effect on putting fireworks out because it carries its own oxygen. That is why some of the fireworks stuff will burn or explode even if you sink it in water. I would be willing to bet if I placed an electric match in a six inch display shell and sank it down 20 feet , when I hit the match the stars would burn and pattern out in the water and burn.

When I watched the investigation report again, I was thinking if it is apparently not permitted to import fireworks from China with igniters already in them, how is it permitted to transport them on American roads with the igniters attached? Then you have Tannerite M-25 coming in from China with igniters in them.
