The latest it is expected to be delivered is the 3rd. So, worst case, I will use it on my July 4th show. Has anyone had any experience using a GoPro camera for filming a display? I'm pretty pumped to experiment with it.

Which model? Black or silver? I recorded my first show with the Silver3+ back in may and realized that filming on 1080 works out a lot better at 30fps in the dark. 60 fps or higher is better for during the day.

Also do not use the waterproof housing even with the skeleton back as the sounds seems very low and muffled. If you want better sound buy an external mic with wind cover.

The mic could be a lot better on the GP3 cameras. We could always attach it to my drone and get an aerial view of the fireworks! Are you planning on using a Tripod?

I have done a couple shows using a Hero 2. Both videos employed a GoPro running at 120fps, the second film has a standard SLR and then a GO Pro.

i'm intrigued by gopro but think i'm gonna save for a nice 4k ultra-h.d. video camera and a good secondary microphone that has a nice low frequency rating to it

at BLackDevil...
I am currently using the Sony HDRPJ790V - has option to add items to that... so a Rode NT4 mic would be a good buy?

Rode NT4 is an amazing microphone to buy. When I was working in Nashville as an Audio Engineer, Rode microphones were all-around favorites. They still are, for good reason.

Bought the black one.

I'm still trying to figure out where I'm going to put it (any suggestions)? I'll bring my tripod, but I'll have my Canon HD video camera on it (hopefully will get someone to record the display from the audience).

helmet-mount, for sure . it's more at eye-level thatta way. there's a mount you can get for hard-hats/forestry helmets.

I am gonna be the odd ball here. I do like the helmet cam but only for hand firing shows. I will have 3 cameras set up for my show all of which will be on tripods because I am e-firing. While the helmet cam is good I get annoyed watching videos of shows that go back and forth between show and remote view unless its specifically a video concerning how the remote works.
Camera 1: Audience View - SLR
Camera 2: GoPro Silver3+ - Ground Zero
Camera 3: GoPro Silver3+ - @ Ground Zero facing up vertical
I do have a 4th camera but I am not sure what I will use it for unless I can come up with a near idea.
I recorded the local city show last night and was very disappointed at how far and small everything appeared in the GoPro on the Wide setting considering I was no more than 150 ft from ground zero so I will definitely be putting them on narrow or medium and doing a few tests before the show.

yeah that wide setting squashes the image/aspect ratio a lot
