Quickie answer - to the best of my knowledge yes. Unless your misdemeanor was the illegal sale or possession of 1.3g fireworks.

If the misdemeanor had an element of Domestic/spousal abuse (not saying it does) then the simple answer is no, you cannot get a Type 54. Also similar to what jknepp1954 said, if you have a misdemeanor conviction of arson, or possession of controlled explosives, then again, no. Try anyways, wouldn't hurt.
