Just for the fun of it I made a small rack with the tubes that came in some 1 inch ball shell kits. This is my first attempt at a rack, and I love sitting on the patio setting off these little shells. Now I can quick fuse a half a dozen. I need to find a place in the Pittsburgh area that sells HDPE pipe and build some more.

Nifty little racks, nice construction. It is not at all necessary, but you can saw off the square flanges at the base of the mortars with a jigsaw so that the tubes all fit flush and tight together. If you want the cardboard tubes to last a long time you can coat them inside and out with Minwax wood hardener. If you do that take off the outside paper wrapper first.

I keep a handful of these cardboard tube racks around at all times so I can put up some cheap little balls just for fun!

Thanks for the tips, I've got way too much time on my hands these days so I thought I would try my hand at it. I'm sure I will have fun with it.

If you check in the garden section of some of the "big box" stores you may find 1" HDPE used for irrigation. Don't use anything that is not clearly marked "HDPE".

For smaller shells you can get away with schedule 40 PVC.

NEVER use PVC! Anyone on here that is not a novice will tell you that! It will splinter just like the larger diameter tubes will if a shell goes off in the pipe--and just because they are only 1" shells, don't treat them with any less respect.
You can use the PVC to launch rockets out of--that is about the only time you should have it around your pyro.

I would never use PVC for mortars, had a canister shell explode last year in the cardboard tube and it shattered the base. I do however use PVC to launch bottle and skyrockets.

Yesterday I received some tubes from Pyroboom that I ordered. I plan on building 2-3 big racks with them. But in the mean time I took some tubes from kits and polysealed them and created these smaller ones to have on hand as well.

PVC will become shrapnel in a shell malfunction and it might get under you skin in the muscle/meat or in your blood stream. Did I mention that PVC is highly TOXIC! Get that stuff inside your body and you might be signing your own death certificate. Now if that don't make you reconsider, nothing will.

Pyroboom has a video about the subject.

I made this little holding device for these Air Bombs, love these things but they're so small and light I needed a way to hold down a few of them at a time.
