Launching large 1.3 shells?

One of my friends has some 4 and 6inch shells that he got from some guy at a indian reservation, and he wants to know how to safely launch them, and how to stabilize the mortar. He was wondering if he should bury the mortar or put the mortar in a large bucket filled with sand. I'm worried that he's gonna do something wrong and loose a hand or worse. Any tips would be great.

You worried about him? I worried about both of you. I looked over some of your post and videos, I try to have members over 18. You are headed down a potentially dangerous road with those larger display shells. Sorry we can give you directions.
