1.3 fireworks test

Hi! I just talked to my state fire marshal. He told me I'm supposed to take a test about a quick summary of the orange book. I'm a bit afraid of this because most of the time in school I hated tests. Does anyone know how many questions there are and what I have to get in order to pass? I know I get only 2 chances on it or else I have to wait another 6 months for another try. I was also informed about the areas of the book the test would go over. So, like I said before, does anyone know? -Thanks!:cool:

PGI tests are 80% for passing. Take a PGI certification class then the state test. You'll pass it.

The extra knowledge and experience will do you good anyway.

It looks like you are from Nebraska. I can not remember if you told us if you have an ATF fireworks or not? Are you trying to get a fireworks display operators license? From what I know the test is free in Nebraska. Here are two reference links.

The seminar pricing varies a little depending on what is offered. If there is a display company in your area some of them offer training to their employees and invite interested shooters to attend. Pyrotechnico is one of those companies.

Many 1.3 vendors offer training too followed by a demo. Check with them it is also a good say to meet others in the industry in the area.

Investing some time and money is never a bad investment in this industry.

If you want to be actively involved with pyro you need to know what the rules & regulations concerning the safe use is. Like Northern Sky said--take the PGI certification class--that will get you redy for anything your local Fire Marshall has for you. If you are not going to be "in commerce" much of the rules & regs do not apply to you--but you still should be aware of them! If you managed to pass a drivers license test, you will be able to do this. Get past the fear of a "test" and look at is as a growing process in the industry for you. Get a copy of the orange book & have fun with it!

Yes, I'm from Nebraska. I'm not sure about your question though because I'm not experienced enough to tell you if I'm getting an operator's license. All I knew was that I was getting an ATF explosives license so I could light off professional fireworks. :D

This might not be a popular belief here but, getting an ATF license and shooting 1.3 shells in your backyard without training by yourself for the first time is ill advised. There is no oops factor when it comes to 1.3 product. Getting a license to buy product doesn't qualify people to do much

Please get some training and come back here post what you learned. Learning from a video is great but doesn't compare to hands on TRAINING. This isn't like fusing an 1.75 rack.

It "professional training" isn't that difficult to get.

I still don't know if any trainers are in my area. Even though the shows go on, no one trains people unlike PA where they have many courses to join. I also don't know how much this will cost.

Long story short, contact 1.3 vendors near you. They will most of them do training or likely know where to send you. Be safe do it right.
