In Dave's video "2 Million Fireworks Video Views" at 00m37s there is a spiral effect I am not familiar with and am curious about.

I was told it is a "spiral-to-salute shell" but would like to know more. Is anyone familiar with this effect and how it is achieved?
Thanks!

The inserts in those rockets are so called 'timed reports'. Take a look here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=intmdbzkE_s

When you search around in this forum or the internet you will find enough informtion about timed reports. You can also look at a Italian or Maltese daylight show, there are also timed reports used in their shells.
In basics timed reports are nothing more than (small) salutes, all with a different length in (time) fuse.
When you put 10 salutes in one rocket/shell and you gove each salute a different fuse length of 1cm/2cm/3cm up till 10cm long, they will fast explode after each other. This gives the timed reports.
When you put the salutes in a cilinder shaped shell/rocket header and put the break charge in the middle, you get the ring effect.
