50 shot mortar rack

I just built my first mortar rack. So im new to using one.. And its a 50 shot. I plan on filling it with all excaliber shells. And i plan on setting them 50 off together. Using fast fuse. I watched daves fusing videos and i built a good rack. My question is . Is 50 excaliber shells all at once safe for a back yard show?

I have done it before. Just make sure you have enough space between the shells and your audience, general rule is 100 feet per inch the shell. Excals are 1.75 inches, so give yourself about 175 feet. Have a great show!

NFPA1123 - 70ft per shell inch. But yes, 100 feet just gives you a little extra safety. Which is always better in any ones book. And 50 Excal shells is an excellent choice for a backyard show and is also safe.

Another quick question. For people who do racks. My rack is about 2.5 feet long. I got fuse that Burns .6 seconds a foot and fuse that Burns 2 seconds a foot. Which is a better choice or look better. For it to shoot the shells over 1.5seconds or over 5 seconds (give or take) I know its preference. But what would give a better result/show?.

Ok thanks everyone. I think I'm gona go with 125-150 feet. And anyone got anything on my fusing question.? Would it be nice to have all 50 shoot off in 1.5 seconds or over 5seconds. I'm thinking 5. But anyone who know alot bout racks. Which looks better all at once or small delay ?

If "I" was using it as the very last barrage, 1.5sec.

If "I" was using it to go along with something else during the finale, 5 sec.

OR

You could fuse the first 20 shells with the slower fuse and wire the rest with the faster fuse to give it a slow start, that will give it a nice little speed build up.

Is the rack angled or straight?
If its straight, you dont have to worry about fusing direction.
If its angled on the sides and straight in the middle rows, dont forget to go from left to right or vise versa so it pans across the sky. It will just look better even though its only gonna last maybe 5 seconds total.

sounds like its gona be sweet! and it should be fine holding up but the only thing I would change is make more smaller racks in the future rather than one large rack because they can get really heavy really fast!
