Boy, I remember that detonation at PGI in Appleton (the first video in Dave's post). I must have been standing next to the guy who shot the video. Talk about a BOOM... it felt like the ground heaved up a couple of inches. Other than dodging big chunks of clay, it was pretty entertaining. Certainly one of the highlights of that mosquito-infested, rain-soaked convention.

What I did not understand about the Hawaii incident was if they wanted to destroy the fireworks, why they did not just fuse them all together and ignite them. Were they taking them apart to salvage some of the components? When the original FireArt was here in Pennsylvania he had a contract to destroy fireworks, poorly made disposable lighters from China that did not meet safety specifications and other flammable products etc. The government would sometimes send people to witness the products being destroyed. Part of the contract specified the products had to destroyed and could not be used for anything even if they were good. I am now receiving reports that the ATF is starting to attempt to auction off confiscated 1.3 fireworks instead of destroying them.
Through sales of ATF DVD/application package I talk to people in many states, here is what I know about Hawaii, in reference to this incident to recap, someone was importing 1.3 display fireworks in 1.4 containers for later sale in Hawaii. There are a few display fireworks companies in Hawaii, as far as I can tell there is no one selling 1.3 fireworks in Hawaii, the display companies apparently made some sort of an agreement to keep it that way. They are doing this because they want to monopolize all display on the islands. Because no one is selling legal 1.3 they are smuggled in. A confidential source told me they are being brought in from Russia in the back of shipping containers; he even sent me pictures of the fireworks with Russian writing on them. Thus, the demand for legal 1.3 is there however, no one is selling in Hawaii. I have been trying to crack the ATF Type 54 in Hawaii but I am unable to do so until I find at least one 1.3 distributor that is willing to sell to private holders of ATF license. The large Asian population in Hawaii wants fireworks and they have to pay Hawaii Explosives and the few other companies for displays or move into the Black Market for 1.3 fireworks.

I thought that myself. They should just fuse them together or lay down BP on top of them all side by side. :)
That be a nice opener, body and finale all in one!!
It would be way quicker then dismantling them.... duhhh. lol.
