so if i build a rack for 4inch shells, why is there 2 different lengths of pipe you can get, eigher 22' or 30'. Why the difference and how does size affect the shell? Which is best to use? Also is it better to get the HDPE plastic or Fiberglass?

typically longer guns are for multi-break and/or "salami" shells.

there are pro's and con's to the HDPE/fiberglass question.

personally i like HDPE but fiberglass guns are used by shooting companies all over the world.

i'd go with whatever is available to you at the cheapest price.

I agree with St1dinoh on that. I alos prefer the HDPE, but again it was the cheaper of the 2 when I was buying mortar tubes. I use the 22" for salutes and the 30" for multi's

now if you go to pyrodirect to buy the 3inch mortors, they only sell 18'' and Kellners have 18'' or 24'' lengths, so is longer the pipe the higher it goes? or what is the difference and what affects does a longer tube do?

Depending on the length of the quick match leader too - we have always used 30" hdpe, 10 in a rack, but rack is heaveir than heck!
If i was to be doing this again after thinking back - go fiberglass! i just hate it regardless of shell size where you have to reach almost to the ground to light the fuse when hand lighting.

so does the fiberglass last just as long as the hdpe? i dont even see 30inch for a 3 inch shell.

I cant speak to whether HDPE lasts longer than Fiberglass, but if safety is on your mind...HDPE is the way to go, especially for salutes.

Fiberglass is used for lightweight or personal preference. I prefer the HDPE myself
