We often see the numbers sixteen thousand and now ten thousand firecrackers, is that really how many actual firecrackers are on the string?
If someone following my videos can translate what is written on the firecracker box in this video please post a comment.

Dave - so you feel you got ripped? Just kidding - interesting though.
I seen on the outside box it says from standard company.

Joyce, you been selling these firecrackers for a while. It seems like these Chinese throw these numbers around on how many firecrackers are in a string or roll, but what exactly does it really mean

I received a translation of what the box says from one of my youtube subscribers in Singapore. I will copy and paste it here.
Side:Before ignition, retrieve from the hanger string. Hang it outdoors under a sturdy structure or bamboo pole. (Children using product must be under adult supervision.) 'Leave' immediately upon igniting the fuse.

Firecrackers count in this product is not exact.

Bottom front rows says: Premium red firecrackers.

Closest translation i can give, ope it helps

At least we can say they are honest in saying that the firecracker count is not exact.

Dave, thanks for another great video and something to think about. I was glad you posted the translation from the youtube poster. I was going to do the same thing today for everyone to enjoy.

Is the firecracker numbers more than likely off from all or most manufactures? Do you think that it is just to hard and time comsuming to count so its just a rough estimate? I could see one string almost always being a different count from another.

I am not sure about that roll of lady fingers, but I have purchased the red Chinese Celebration crackers that were labeled as TAU. My understanding of TAU is that it is a measurement of the composition in the roll that would be equal to the number on the roll. So for example if you have a 10,000 TAU roll, there may only be about 7500 in it, but the composition should be equal to 10,000 non TAU crackers. So im thinking that the bang per cracker would be better in a TAU roll to make up (in composition) for the actual number that is on the package. I may have this totally wrong but that is how I understood it. This would also help make a uniform measurement for those big rolls that have headbombs or big and small crackers in the same roll. TAU just takes the composition into consideration and the number on the string becomes a unit of "standard crackers"

I have seen vidoes of firecracker manufacture, and my book 'The Chemistry of Powder and Explosives By Dr. Tenney Lombard Davis..also has a chapter describing the operation..it does seem like very specialist [and somewhat dangerous] work...but it's amazzing the precision that's required...It wouldn't surprise me if the counts were very very close...firecracker manufacture is amazing work and nobody does it better than the Chinese...long before Liuyang became the center of Firecracker manufacture Macau was the place where mose firecrackers came from...those rolls make those little packs I used to get look like a joke...although I'd hate to be the one to clean up the mess...lol..IMHO firecrackers are good for the health!

forgot to write...your dimensional analysis looks good to me...but i guess the above explanation, seems good regarding 'tau' but usually the counts are accurate...they must mean something different than the number...

Lot off firecracker strings have numbers on them that refer to the chinese luckynumbers .
666, 888, 10.000, 100.000 is what i see a lot around here in europe.
