Hey Guys,
I want to try something out.. Can we try and collect all the homemade aerial salutes, in this thread? :o
Otherwise a billion threads about the same subject might appear. :p
Type in the information about the salute. And maybe post a video of it being fired.
Feel free to comment, give advice and so fourth.
I'll go first:

Type: Salute Rocket, with star inserts.
Engine: 1/2 pound, blackpowder rocket.
Salute: 20 grams of KClO4 / German Blackhead aluminum powder / Titanium / D1 Stars
Ratios: 67,5%, 27,5%, 5%
Problem: Second payload didn't ignite.:( (Probably blown blind)

That's looking mighty fine for a 16-year-old hobbyist, keep it up! :D

Kinda makes me think of the 2008 batch of the German Zink 902 rockets. The one without the white tail. Those were fine rockets, I wonder if yours was louder. :P

i have had no success with Potassium Nitrate, Aluminum blackhead, sulfur. mixtures 6/3/2, 6/3/1, 6/2/1.

i know potassium nitrate is not the best because it burns slower. Just wondering if i have the right ratios.

also for the record i am just testing with some black box shells, open up, replace, seal with hobby glue (could be the problem to?)

any help is appriciated.

firstly wow bunch of kewls floating around looking at all the threads lol

the comon ratio for nitrate flash is 5/3/2 Nitrate Sulfur Al though your ratio wouldnt be causing you problems but the particle size of your reactants they must be very finely powdered and well intergrated

It would be nice if Dave made a revision to the rules, saying flash discussion is fine, but perhaps basic questions can be limited to one noob thread? This way, simple things don't clutter up the board.

I think Dave should make the manufacturing forum private, so that unregistered people and new people with like less than 10-15 posts can't view it.

That's a great idea, Shig. Also, maybe a "News/Support/Feature Forum" to inquire about things like that. I'll start leaving these comments to myself so we can stop going off topic.

noobs shouldnt be playing with flash fullstop no new pyro should after 1-2 year(s) or more of manufacturing and successfully making shells should the thought that flash may be used come to ones mind

I agree with you on that. There should be some restriction on information flow so the "flash-bang-wanna blow my hand off" kids are not encouraged to try foolish & often dangerous compositions.

"A little knowledge goes a long way-a lot of knowledge keeps you out of trouble." quote of ancient Chinese pyrotechnican named "Run Sun Run"!
